Dakota State University will
be putting its 5-19 volleyball record on the line this weekend
against both Minot and Dickinson State universities at the DSU
Fieldhouse. The Trojan women gained a 1-1 split in play at the
Waldorf Classic last Friday at Forest City, Iowa.
DSU handed North Central (Iowa) College a 3-1 defeat before
losing 3-0 to host Waldorf.
Trojans 3, NCC 1
DSU survived a 32-30 first-game setback to come back with three
straight game wins -- 30-22, 30-18 and 30-28 -- to hand North
Central its 3-1 loss.
Rachel Jensen, Ashley Schulte and Margie Anthony led the Trojans
at the net. Jensen and Schulte had 15 and 11 kills,
respectively, and Anthony had two solo blocks.
Krista Klemm added 43 assists and Katie Bassett had six. On
defense, Laura Lanoue, DSU's primary libero player produced 33
digs, while Jenna Kostelecky added 18, Amy Pheneger 16, Jensen
15, and Klemm 10.
Pheneger, Lanoue, Anthony and Jensen each had two ace serves.
North Central was led by Amanda Matson with 10 kills, Emily
Matson with 25 assists and three service aces, and Keeley
Soloman with 25 digs.
Waldorf 3, Trojans 0
Waldorf dished out consecutive 30-22, 30-28 and 30-14 game
losses to the Trojan women. Jensen came through for DSU with
nine kills, Anthony eight and Schulte six in the match.
Anthony also had two solo blocks, while Kelsey Paulson and
Anthony helped out on two other occasions with assisted blocks.
Klemm claimed 21 assists and Lanoue had 26 volley-saving digs.
Jensen added 20 digs, Pheneger 18, Klemm 15 and Kostelecky 14.
Waldorf (10-7) got 10 kills by Synnove Abrahamson and eight more
from Luise Mudra.
Sara Becker added 30 assists and Andrea Blanchard and Anna Huls
each had 11 digs.
