(Madison, SD) - The
Trojan Volleyball team traveled to Clinton, IA last weekend to
participate in the Ashford University tournament.
The Trojans opened the
tournament last Friday with a five game thriller win over Mount
Mercy of Iowa and ended the day with a loss to William Penn in
four games. On the second day of the tournament, the host
team Ashford defeated the Trojans in four games, but the Trojans
came back and notched their fourth win of the season by
defeating Clarke College in four games. As a result, the
Trojans were in a four teams tied for third place in the
tournament with Clarke College, Graceland, and Ashford.
College of Ozarks claimed the team championship, while William
Penn finished second in the tournament. Mount Mercy
finished seventh and Calumet St. Joseph went out winless in the
tournament.
Sophomore Rachael Jensen was
named to Ashford All-Tournament Team. For the tournament,
Jensen amassed 49 kills with an average of 2.88 kills per game.
She also recorded seven service aces with a .918 serving
percentage. In defense, Jensen had 88 receptions with five
errors and recorded 84 digs. She also recorded three block
solos and 15 block assists with an average of 1.06 blocks per
game. Rachael is the daughter of Mark and Jonda Jensen of
Beresford, SD.
The Trojans (4-17, 1-6 DAC)
return back to DAC Conference action Wednesday night as they
take on their traveling partner Jamestown College in Jamestown,
ND. There will be a junior varsity contest at 4:00 pm,
followed by a varsity contest at 7:00 pm. On Friday night,
the Trojans will conclude their road trip at Forest City, IA in
the Waldorf Triangular. The Trojans will take on North
Central at 6:00 pm and then face the host team Waldorf in the
nightcap at 8:00 pm.
