First time in more than six years a DSU Volleyball
player to receive this honor
For the week of
September 19 to 25, 2005, the NAIA Region III honored Ashley Brassfield
as NAIA Region III Libero Player of the Week. This is the first time in
more than six years that a Dakota State Volleyball player has received
this honor. In addition to this honor, Brassfield was tabbed as
Dakota Athletic Conference Libero Player of the Week for the second
consecutive week.
Brassfield, a
senior from New Underwood, SD, averaged 6.11 digs per game and recorded
only two errors in 155 serve receptions on the week including key wins
over conference rival Jamestown and regionally ranked Morningside.
She is 3rd in the conference with 5.54 digs per game and 349 digs
overall. In the record book, Brassfield ranks 1st in most digs in
a match with 42 digs last year and is currently 3rd in career digs with
1465 digs.
"Ashley does an
amazing job of seeing what is developing across the net and putting
herself in a position to play the ball. Each year she has improved
and become more of an integral part of the success of our program than
the year before. She has a natural instinct and speed to get to
balls that many other players wouldn't be able to get to," said head
coach Cynthia Henning.
Brassfield is the
daughter of Trudy and Dale Brassfield. She is majoring in Computer
Graphics.
