Three Dakota State University athletes have been tabbed as all-conference selections in
volleyball for the Dakota Athletic Conference.

Seniors Micah Tolzin of Sioux Falls and Ashley Brassfield of New Underwood have been named to the first team. Junior Stacy Dunklau of Arlington, Neb., has been placed on the second team.

Brassfield also received a post-season award for libero of the year.

Tolzin and Brassfield are returning all-conference players from 2004, said DSU Volleyball Coach Cindy Henning.

"Micah has completed her career at DSU as a three-time all conference selection and a two-time all-region selection," Henning said.

All-region selections for 2005 have not been announced.

"Ashley is a two-time all-conference selection and has been the heart of the Trojan defensive efforts since she was a sophomore," Henning said.

Dunklau is a first-time all-conference selection.

"Stacy has really stepped into a leadership role for us and has had a great year for us. She was very inconsistent at times last year, and this season she has come into her own on our court. She is an impact player for us, and her selection to all-conference says a lot about her maturity over the course of the last year," Henning said.

Brassfield and Tolzin are among the hardest-working athletes Henning has coached, she said.

"The rise of the Dakota State volleyball team can be linked directly back to this recruiting class, not just Micah and Ashley, but Cami Martin and Katie Lanoue. While not all of them are able to `get the glory,' one just has to look at the record books to see their accomplishments as individual players and also as a core group of seniors."

This was the final season for Tolzin and Brassfield.

"Their departure from our program will leave some very serious holes for us to fill," Henning said.
