State University Trojans had a perfect day Saturday, playing in the Mount
Marty Volleyball Invitational at Yankton and beating Grandview and Mount
Marty colleges.
With the wins, the Trojans take an 8-3 mark into play Wednesday at
Jamestown (N.D.) College.
On Saturday, the Trojans blitzed Grandview 3-0 (30-24, 30-28 and 30-24).
Amanda Vos-Keizer came through with 13 kills to power the Trojans' attack,
which also featured 11 kills by Stacy Dunklau and six from Katie Lanoue.
Dunklau had four assisted blocks, and Sandy Smith had a solo block and
three assists.
In the match, Jill Weisser contributed 32 set assists, while on defense,
the Trojans got 15 dibs by Cami Martin and 10 by Ashley Brassfield.
Lanoue paced Trojan servers with four aces, while Micah Tolzin added three
and Martin two.
The Trojans were in danger of losing their match against Mt. Marty, which
had built an early 2-0 lead, winning games one and two 30-28 and 30-25.
DSU, however, won the next three games 30-27, 21-29 and 15-11 to earn its
eighth duel win of the year.
On the attack, Dunklau led the Trojans with 17 kills, followed closely by
Tolzin with 15 and Smith 12. Smith had seven assisted blocks and Dunklau
had five. Tolzin came through with six assisted blocks.
Weisser led DSU both at the service line and in the middle, collecting
three ace serves and 35 set assists.
On defense, Vos-Keizer garnered 24 digs, Brassfield 21 and Weisser 17.
