Tuesday,
August 24th is a day that Ashley Brassfield will remember for the rest of
her life. In a match against the University of Sioux Falls, the junior Libero set a new school record with an amazing 42 digs. Ashley’s
performance on Saturday bettered the previous school record of 39 set by
Emily Christensen in 2002 against the University of Mary (ND).
Ashley who was a three time
female athlete of the year at New Underwood High School led the Trojans
last year with 515 digs. “During the game against USF everything fell into
place and went really well. My blockers did a great job and made my reads
very easy” said Brassfield. The junior has high expectations for her team,
which finished second in the conference last year. “I expect the team to
continue to grow and get stronger as the year goes on and we gain
experience playing amongst each other.”
The Trojans who are 1-2
on the year will be in action again on Monday, August 30, 2004 against
Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell. The Trojans faced DWU on Tuesday
and came out with the win 30-21, 30-22, 29-31, 30-28.
