The Dakota
State University softball program has received
their second commitment for the 2008-09 season;
Katie Christian from New Ulm, MN has signed a
letter of intent to play for the Trojans next
season.
Katie led
her team to the Minnesota Class "A" state championship by
striking out 14 batters in 18
innings of work while not allowing a single earned run
during
the tournament. On the season Katie was 18-1 with an earned
run average of .73. Christian also recorded 106 strikeouts,
4 saves and threw 9 complete games including 4 shut outs
this season. For her accomplishments Katie was selected to
the All-Conference, All-State, and All-Tournament teams
these honors where no surprise as Katie was named to the
same teams in 2006 as a sophomore. During the past three
season’s Katie has posted an impressive 46-6 record while
logging 367 innings and an E.R.A. under 1.0.
“Katie
will be a great addition to our program she has had
tremendous success the past three seasons, we expect Katie
to be a vital part of your future success. I am very
pleased that we were able to sign Katie as her final
decision came down to us and Mankato State
(Mankato
is a NCAA D-II
program
that was 45-15 last season). Katie is a very
talented young lady not only on the field but in the
classroom as well; during her career she has posted a 3.5
GPA and will be majoring in Exercise Science when she
attends Dakota State.” Stated head coach Ken Prorok.
During
the 2007-08 seasons the Trojans will play 11 games against
NCAA competition including NCAA D-I South Dakota State on
March 24th.
