Trojans back on winning track
Tucson, AZ 3/8/07 -
After a day off the Dakota State University
Softball team found themselves back on the
winning track. The Trojans were in action again
today as they took on Wisconsin Lutheran and St.
Ambrose (IA), in the Tucson Invitational games.
The Trojans who struggled just two days ago to
manage only three hits pounded out a combined 19
hits in the two games today.
In the
first game of the day the Trojans took on
Wisconsin Lutheran a team they defeated last
year, here in Tucson 3-1. In the first inning of
the game the Trojans scored three runs and ran
starting pitcher Jenny Boelk out of the game for
Warrior reliever Michelle Shambeau, who slowed
down the offensive attack and held the Trojans
to only one run over the next five innings.
Offensively the Trojans had four hits but showed
great discipline at the plate as they walked
eight times in their 4-1 victory over the
Warriors.
In the
second game of the afternoon the Trojans took on
St. Ambrose University. The Trojans would score
10 runs on 15 hits and defeat the Saints 10-5.
Offensively the Trojans were lead by Reba Sabo
and Jamie Becker who each recorded three hits
while Lori Olen, Dakota Novotny and Steph Brakel
each added two hits a piece as well. Freshman
Dakota Novotny went six innings to record her
third win of the season.
“The
day off was good for us, it gave us a day to
recover from an exhausting trip here, as we
battled a blizzard before arriving in Arizona.
The team has really done a good job the past
couple of days developing some chemistry,
obviously the first road trip of the year is
good for every team it makes you bond with your
teammates and truly become a team, we aren’t
there yet but we are getting there and you could
see that by the way we played today” added head
coach Ken Prorok.
The
Trojans are in action tomorrow as they take on
Patten University (CA) and Viterbo University
(WI) at 3:00 pm and 5:30 pm respectively. The
Trojans are currently 5-3.
