Offense Struggles
Tucson, AZ 3/6/07 -
On a beautiful, sunny, 85 degree day in Tucson
AZ, the Dakota State University offense
struggled mightily managing just three hits in
two games this afternoon as the Trojans dropped
a pair of games to Morningside (IA) and Judson
(IL).
In the first game of the day the
Trojans hosted Morningside College, a regionally
ranked team from Sioux City, IA. The mustangs
from Morningside held the Trojan offense in
check allowing just one hit, a lead off single
by senior outfielder Lori Olen. The Mustangs
scored 14 runs on 18 hits and went on to beat
the Trojans 14-0 in the first game of the day.
In the second game of the afternoon
the Trojans hosted Judson College and the
offensive struggles continued as the Trojans
only managed three hits while giving up 14 to
the team from Illinois. The Trojans did manage
to have 10 base runners reach during the game
but stranded seven and lost 9-3.
“Today was not a good day for us we
struggled in almost every aspect of the game. In
the game against Morningside we only struck out
three times but didn’t manage to put the ball in
play real hard either. In the game against
Judson we had some carry over effects from the
first game, which is something we need to work
on. We can’t carry our negatives over from game
to game or even play to play we have to get
stronger mentally and flush the negatives away.
In our first six games we have showed some great
things and have also showed some things we need
to continue to work on, which is what we expect
at this point in the season. The day off
tomorrow will be good for us as we gear up for
the second half of our trip and look to head
home on a strong note.” Stated head coach Ken
Prorok.
The Trojans are currently 3-3 and
will resume action on Thursday when they take on
Wisconsin Lutheran and St. Ambrose at 10:30 am
and 1:00 pm in the Tucson Invitational.
