Trojans Split Weekend
with Mayville State
Madison, SD (4/15/06) –
The
Trojans hosted Mayville State this weekend in
their first 4 game set at home this season. The
Trojans who entered the weekend with a 17-13
overall record were out-slugged on Friday as
Mayville pounded out 29 hits and scored 24 runs.
The Trojans did manage 25 hits but only scored
11 runs losing 7-4 and 17-7 on an 85 degree day
at the Thue Softball Complex.
“Your not going to win to many games
when you strand 17 runners in a two game set.”
Said Trojan first year Head Coach Brad Hesser.
The Trojans who have scored 220 runs this season
have also left 240 runners on base. “Timely
hitting is something that has plagued us all
season, we need to find a way to execute better
when we need to.” Added Hesser.
On the second day of action the
Trojans made their adjustments and never looked
back. The Trojan pitching staff, who had gotten
beat up the day before allowed just 7 hits and
1 run in 14 innings of work allowing the Trojan
offense the opportunity to produce 10 runs on 19
hits, and a split on the weekend winning 7-1 and
3-0 over the visiting comets.
“After Friday we were able to get a
good solid scouting report put together, and put
it to work. Steph came out and kept their
hitters off balance and we were able to position
some people better today than we did yesterday.”
Said Associate Head Coach Ken Prorok.
The Trojans currently 19-15 will
host the University of Sioux Falls on Wednesday
in a double header with the first pitch
scheduled for 5:00 pm. U.S.F. advanced to the
NAIA National tournament last season.
