Trojans go 8-4 in Arizona Tucson, AZ 3/11/06 – On their last day of a grueling 12 game in 7 day schedule the Trojans faced regional opponent Dordt College(IA.) and NCAA Division II Fort Lewis College (CO.) In the first game of the day the Trojans faced Dordt College, the Trojans quickly dismantled the Defenders scoring 11 runs on 15 hits. 8 of the 9 starters recorded hits for the Trojans with Allison Gilbert, Allison Hubers, Amber Hubers, and Jessie Klingenberg having a perfect day at the plate. Junior Stephanie Brakel, who was recovering from a stomach virus, picked up the win allowing 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 6, improving her record to 9-4 on the season. In the second game of the day DSU faced NCAA DII Fort Lewis College, who entered the game with an 11-10 record and riding a 5 game winning streak in which they had allowed just 3 runs while scoring 36 runs. The Trojans, who rested numerous players due to nagging injuries, found themselves on the losing side of a 10-0 game. In the game the Trojans left 6 runners on base. Freshman Katie Albertus took the loss for the Trojans allowing 10 runs on 16 hits. “Even after losing a game like this we are very pleased with the way the team has played this week, anytime you can go 8-4 in a 12 game set we will take it. We had players take advantage of opportunities this week and that is what we were looking for. We have told the girls that early in the season wins and losses don’t matter as we are more concerned with improvement on the field, I really feel that we have done a great job improving everyday on the field and that improvement is what has enabled us to go 8-4 this week, we have a lot of room for improvement and that is what we will focus on when we get back home.” Stated Associate Head Coach Ken Prorok. The Trojans will travel home on Sunday and will have Monday off before beginning preparations for regional opponent and in-state rival Mt. Marty College on Thursday.
