Trojans are 4-2 on Current Trip Tucson, AZ 3/7/06 - The Dakota State University softball team finished their third day of games in Arizona going 1-1 improving their overall record to 5-3 and 4-2 on the trip. The Trojans faced Judson College (IL) in the first game of the day; Judson completed a sweep of Dominican University and Concordia St. Paul the day before scoring 22 runs in 12 innings of action the day before. The Trojans who had scored 20 runs the previous day picked up right where they left off, scoring 9 runs off of 14 hits to beat Judson 9-1 in five innings handing them their first loss of the year. In the game 9 different Trojans recorded hits with sophomore Allison Hubers recording three hits and junior Jessie Klingenberg driving in three runs on a bases loaded double in the fourth inning. In the circle the Trojans were lead by junior right-hander Stephanie Brakel, Brakel picked up the win allowing 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 4 to improve her record to 5 - 2. In the second game of the day the Trojans faced regional opponent Morningside College (IA), the Mustangs came into the game 4-1 and ranked 5th in the latest NAIA Region III poll. The mustangs jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the second inning. The Trojans responded by scoring 1 in the bottom of the second and then 4 more in the fourth bringing the score to 6-5 before the Mustangs added three in the fifth inning and three more in the 7th winning the game by a final score of 12-5. “I am very proud of the way our team played today, obviously we shut down a very powerful offense in Judson this morning, and we were in the game with Morningside until the 5th inning. I think our kids are getting a little ran down from playing 6 games in three days, we have tomorrow off so that will be good for us to rest some kids and treat some nagging injuries.” Stated Trojan Head Coach Brad Hesser. “We have played very well in the first half of the trip here to Arizona, obviously were not happy losing to Morningside, but the good thing about it is we play them again in late April so we will have a chance to redeem the loss, but even more importantly see how we have improved as the season has progressed.” Added Associate Head Coach Ken Prorok. The Trojans are off tomorrow and will take on the defending USCAA National Champions St. Mary’s of the Woods College, and NCAA Division II Rockhurst University on Thursday. Tonight the coaching staff will attended the University of Arizona practice and will be the guests of Arizona Head Coach Mike Candrea for the evening.
