Trojans Plagued by
Injuries
Madison, SD (4/21/06)
– The last week and a half has taken its toll on
the Dakota State University Trojan Softball
team. The team who was ranked 8th in
the region just two weeks ago has seen two
starters fall out of the line up due to
injuries. Starting centerfielder sophomore Amber
Postma is dealing with a leg injury that has
limited her to 1 pinch hit in the last 10 games.
Starting shortstop
junior Allison Gilbert will be out indefinitely
after receiving a break of a facial bone as
well.
The loss of Amber and Allison is a
huge hit to the line-up; Gilbert has been the
Trojan lead off hitter all season hitting .413
with 50 hits and 32 RBI’s. Postma has patrolled
the outfield since opening day and is currently
hitting .337 with 11 doubles.
“Losing Amber and Allison, puts us
in a big jam with us only having 13 people
suited up for games and now losing 2 our options
are very limited in terms of pinch hitting,
pinch-running or any type of switches. Not only
does it hurt us in terms of numbers we
also lose two huge
parts of our offense, we lose over 20% of our
teams total hits and almost 30% of our extra
base hits. We will look at freshman Jamie Becker
to step in and fill a
huge void in the infield for us and we will need
everyone to step their game up until we can get
Amber and Allison back in the line-up.” Stated
Associate Head Coach Ken Prorok.
The Trojans are in action again this
weekend as they travel
to Jamestown, ND and take on the Jimmies of
Jamestown College.
