June 20, 2006

(Madison, SD) - Dakota State University head men’s basketball coach Wade Kooiman is proud to announce the signing of Josh Lawson to a Dakota Athletic Conference letter of intent.

Lawson, a 6’3” guard, comes to DSU fresh off a stellar career at Plankinton High School in Plankinton, SD.  As a standout for the Pirates, Josh amassed over 1,000 career points and set a school single-game scoring record of 51 points during his senior year in which he averaged 21 points per game and 9 rebounds per game.  Josh was a two-time CBH 1st Team All-Conference performer and was named Conference MVP during his senior season.  In addition to his conference recognition, Josh was also tabbed a 3rd Team
All-State selection and was nominated for the Elite 8 Athlete of the Year Award this past year.

“Josh brings a great deal of athleticism and skill to our program,” noted Kooiman.  “His relentless work ethic and determination will contribute greatly to our university and to the men’s basketball program.  We look for good things from Josh in the future”

Josh becomes the sixth member of the Trojans’ 2006-2007 recruiting class joining Bryce Kreutzfeldt of Chester, Matt Schrank of Corsica, Garrett Hoefert of Salem, Josh Magbuhat of Rapid City, and Brian Bolin of Garrison, MN.
