fall to Jamestown 74-48

Jamestown
College rushed to a 33-19 first half-ending lead and was never
challenged by Dakota State University, posting a DAC-opening 26-point,
74-48, win over the Trojans Thursday in Madison.
The win gave Jamestown a temporary 1-0 lead in conference play, while
the Trojans fell to 0-1. Both teams, however, left the DSU Fieldhouse
with 3-5 overall records.
Joe Backus was DSU's sole double-figures scorer, earning 16 points on
8-for-9 field goal shooting. The rest of the Trojans went just 11-37
from the field.
Leon Blue added six points and Shuan Wisdom, Blake Hyde and Zak Morken
each had five points.
Jamestown, however, popped in its field goals at a 27-57 clip and
outscored the Trojans 12-8 at the charity stripe.
Jimmies Kyle Iverson and Jake Holen entered double-digit scoring
territory with respective 23- and 19-point outings. Iverson and Holen
combined for 15-33 field goal shooting.
Jordan Olson added nine points. Kellen Bubach and Elie Jermanous had
eight and seven points, respectively.
The Trojans had a slight 36-33 rebound edge, with Backus completing his
double-double performance with 10 rebounds. Five other Trojans had three
rounds apiece.
Iverson powered the Jimmies' boardwork with nine rebounds, Olson added
six, and Jermanous and Mike Perez each had five.
The Jimmies forced DSU into 18 turnovers while giving up the ball just
nine times.
DSU's next action comes Sunday when it visits NCAA Div. II St. Cloud
(Minn.) State University in nonconference play. Jamestown's next game is
Dec. 9 when it plays at Dickinson (N.D.) State University in DAC action.
DSU's next DAC game comes Dec. 9 at Minot (N.D.) State University. The
Trojans don't play again at home until Dec. 16 and 17 when they host,
respectively, Mayville and Valley City State universities.
