University's Sal Raphael and Ryan Burggraff are among the DAC-10
elite men's basketball players as announced Wednesday by conference
coaches.
Raphael and Burggraff, both senior captains for the Trojans, helped
DSU to a 15-15 finish, which included a 12-6 runner-up finish in the
loop.
Raphael, a 6-foot-1 guard from Los Angeles, was named to the
conference's first team.
Burggraff, a 6-6 forward, gained the conference's most valuable
senior designation, along with being named to the second team.
Tim Schuring, DSU's head coach, praised his two honorees.
"Both of these guys will go down in history as two of the best
players to ever play games in a DSU uniform," said Schuring. "To
gain all-conference honors in the DAC-10 is no easy task. Only 15
players are chosen out of the 84 who saw action this season."
He added, "DSU's players, fans and coaches have always known that
Sal and Ryan were great players, but by being named All DAC-10, it
proves that others around the league respect them both as well. They
are both deserving of the honor."
DAC-10 champion Minot State had one player -- guard Courtney Haley
-- make the first team all-conference squad. Haley also was named
newcomer of the year, and Beavers coach Mike Hultz was named coach
of the year.
Mayville State, which finished third in the regular season, placed
guard Alexandros Anthis on the first team. He also was named the
league's most valuable player and the defensive player of the year.
Other first-team selections were University of Mary guard Anish
Sharda and Jamestown forward Jonathon Castillo.
Joining Burggraff on the second team were forward Hallard Jackson
III of Black Hills State, and guards Tyrone Terry of Valley City
State, Gilby Sanchez of Mayville State and Chad Glasser of Dickinson
State.
Third-team members were Mary center Alex Aldinger, Minot State
center Jeremy Feller, and guards Lawrence Brooks of Jamestown, Jon
Walder of South Dakota Tech and Chris Porter of Si Tanka-Huron.
