Trojans Pound Out 23 Hits to Defeat Northwestern (IA) 13-3

(Madison, SD) - The Trojan Baseball team pounded out a win against Northwestern
(IA) in a key game of the regions “top six” showdown. The Trojans
outhit the Red Raiders 23-5 en route to a 13-3 win in seven innings.
Josh Guild went perfect at the plate,
going 5-for-5 with a double, two RBIs, and three runs scored.
Greg Biagi and Mike Young each homered for the Trojans. Twelve
Trojan players got at least one hit in the game. Jeff Savas
and Steve Mehlbrech each had a double for the Trojans.
Nick Recor (1-1) recorded his first win
of the season, pitching 5 1/3 strong innings and allowing two
unearned runs. He struck out three batters.
For Northwestern (IA), five batters
recorded singles from Matt Gray, Joe Heitritter, Kent Drickey, Scott
Mineart, and Mike Zoellner. Stuart Moore (1-2) took the loss
for the Red Raiders.
Prior to coming into this game,
Northwestern (IA) was ranked first in the latest NAIA Region III
poll and the Trojans were ranked sixth. Dakota States record
is 19-14 and Northwestern (IA) is 23-12.
The Trojans will host Valley City State in a four-game weekend
series at Flynn Field. The doubleheader will start at 2:00 pm
on Saturday and 1:00 pm on Sunday.
