(Madison, SD) –
Last Thursday, December 6th, the Trojan women's and men's
indoor track and field competed in their first meet of the
season, the University of South Dakota/Derek Miles Open, at
the USD DakotaDome. Seniors Bobbi Jo Dykstra and Chris
Heezen had qualified to the NAIA Indoor Track and Field
National Championship as Janelle Stickler, Margie Anthony,
and Katie Gylfe broke new DSU school records.
In women's 60 meter hurdles, senior Bobbi Jo Dykstra
qualified to NAIA National Indoor Track & Field Championship
as she finished with a time of 9.05 seconds. Dykstra's
time broke DSU school record in women's 60 meter hurdles and
finished second in the meet. Bobbi is the daughter of
Brian and Linda Dykstra of Marion, SD, and is majoring in
Exercise Science at Dakota State University.
Senior Chris Heezen crossed the finish line in second place
in the men's 5000 meter run with a time of 15:29.74.
He qualified to the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championship
for his second straight year. Chris is the son of
Jerry and Peggy Heezen of Miller, SD and is majoring in
Exercise Science at Dakota State University.
Sophomore Janelle Stickler tied DSU school record in women's
pole vault. She placed third with the height of 10
feet. Janelle is the daughter of Todd and Julie
Stickler of Huron, SD and majoring in Graphic Design at DSU.
Margie Anthony placed eighth in women's triple jump with a
length of 34 feet and 11 1/4 inches. As a result, she
broke a new DSU school record in women's triple jump.
Margie is a freshman at Dakota State University and is the
daughter of Mark and Tara Anthony of Jefferson, SD.
Katie Gylfe, a sophomore of Beresford, SD, broke DSU school
record in women's weight throw. At the USD/Derek Miles
Open, she recorded a throw of 36 feet and 8 1/2 inches and
finished 16th. Katie is the daughter of Joseph Class
and Arlene Gylfe and is majoring in Exercise Science at DSU.
The Trojan Indoor Track and Field team will take a month off
before returning back to action on Saturday, January 12,
2008, as they participate in the Mankato Open in Mankato,
MN.
