(Madison, SD) –
Last Saturday, January 19, the Dakota
State University Indoor Track and Field Team participated in
the USD Bill Hillenbrand Open held in Vermillion, SD.
Chris Heezen qualified to the
NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championship as Janelle
Stickler and Trojan men’s medley relay team set school
records at the meet.
Heezen already qualified to the NAIA
Nationals in men’s 5000 meter run at the Minnesota
State-Mankato Alumni Open, and he qualified to the NAIA
Nationals in men’s 3000 meter run.
He ran with a time of 8:53.70 with a second place
finish at the meet.
Chris is the son of Jerry and Peggy Heezen of Miller,
SD and is a senior majoring in Exercise Science at Dakota
State University.
Sophomore Janelle Stickler tied DSU school
record in women’s pole vault for the second time this
season. She
placed third with the height of 10 feet and six inches.
Janelle is the daughter of Todd and Julie Stickler of
Huron, SD and majoring in Graphic Design at Dakota State
University.
The Trojan men’s distance medley relay
broke a 26-year old school record with the new record time
of 10:39.19. The
previous old school record was set in 1982 with a time of
10:49.74. The
medley relay team consists of sophomore Tyler Van Peursem,
freshman Lee Irvine, senior Trevor Strobel, and sophomore
Anthony Drealan.
The Trojan Indoor Track and Field team
will compete in the USD Graphic Edge Invitational on
Saturday, January 26th, 2008.
The first college event is slated at 10:00 am at the
USD DakotaDome in Vermillion, SD.
