(Madison, SD) -
Tyler VanPeursem, Eric Bauder, Margie Anthony, Laura Tewes, Bobbi Jo Dykstra and Kari Schaefer of Dakota State University took advantage of the weather on Monday and had their season's-best performances in the DSU Invitational at Trojan Field.

The DSU Invitational was postponed from Friday due to a 10-inch snowfall. DSU Coach Buzz Stevenson had the DSU grounds crew and other helpers remove a lot of snow off the Trojan Field surface Monday morning.

"There was really no doubt that we'd have the meet," said Stevenson. "The way this spring has been, you have to take advantage of every opportunity. It turned out Monday that we had a good day to have a meet after all.

``For Tyler, it was a really good day. Tyler qualified for the NAIA Nationals with a first-place 1:53.65 in the 800. For Eric, it was a good day too, qualifying for the national meet with his first-place 6-foot-6 high jump, which was good enough for second place."

DSU women's coach Trent Mack was very pleased with the efforts of Tewes, Dykstra and Schaefer. "Laura continued to perform up to her level in the high jump," said Mack. "Bobbi Jo and Kari had their season's-bests in the 200 and 800."

All three Trojan women placed first in those events. Tewes cleared the high jump bar at 5-8, while Dykstra peeled off a 25.72-second dash in the 200 and Schaefer raced to a tape-breaking 2:21.46 finish in the 800.

"This was the perfect time to tune up and prepare for the DAC (Dakota Athletic Conference) Meet in Jamestown this Friday," added Mack.

No team points were kept. DSU competed against tracksters from SDSU, Dordt College and the University of Sioux Falls.
