Two weekend
conference wins for the
Lady T's and a loss for
Minot State
and
Black Hills State
moved Dakota State
University into
sole
possession of
first place in the DAC
conference standings.
DSU beat Jamestown 64-57
on Friday and Valley
City 78-53 on Saturday,
improving its conference
record to 7-2.
Leading
DSU against Valley City
was
Jessica VanLoy with a
double-double, 10 points
and 12 rebounds.
Laura Tewes
added
15 points and six
rebounds
while Nicole
Geraets
dropped in 13
points and
had
two rebounds.
Maria Gengler had 12
points and 11 rebounds
and Angela Carr
had 11 points
to round out the
double-digit scorers for
DSU.
"We had a tough game
with Valley City,"
Lady
T's Head Coach Jeff
Dittman said.
"They played very hard
all night and really
attacked us well."
DSU maintained pressure
as well,
holding onto a
10-point advantage until
a late-game scoring
surge sealed the win for
DSU.
"We were up eight when
we had eight consecutive
fast-break runs that
opened the score to 25
points," Dittman said.
That action took place
in two of the final five
minutes of play against
Valley City.
Black Hills State
University and Minot
State University each
posted losses this
weekend, giving DSU the
top
spot in the
conference
ranking with five
games left in the
season.
"However, we have a road
trip to the Hills this
weekend that will be
as challenging as
always," Dittman said.
The next action for the
Lady T's is Friday in
Rapid City against the
South Dakota School of
Mines and Technology and
Saturday against BHSU in
Spearfish.
