In a game postponed by a
snow-and-ice storm, Dakota State
University's Lady T's roared past
Peru State College 85-67
at Auburn, Neb., Sunday.
The game was originally set to be played
Saturday.
The win lifted the ninth-ranked
Lady T's to 7-2 prior to
their Dakota Athletic Conference
opener at Mayville, N.D.,
Wednesday against the Comets.
In
Sunday's game, DSU got double-figures
scoring from Maria
Gengler and Jessica VanLoy.
Gengler topped all scorers with
17 points on 8-for-11 field goal
shooting. VanLoy, who went
5-7 from the field, added 13
points.
"Maria had an
excellent game inside while Jess made
plays at both ends of the court," said
Lady T's head coach Jeff Dittman.
They were supported by Carmyn Streitz
and Kaitlyn Kramer
with nine points apiece. Jill
Hansen added eight points and
Laura Tewes had six as the Lady
T's shot field goals at a
42-percent, 29-69 clip.
"We had a lot of
people contribute tonight," said
Dittman, "and that was great for us.
We've had so many tight games that we
really needed a chance to give our
younger athletes some significant
minutes. Tonight they got that
opportunity."
DSU created a 42-25 halftime advantage
before exchanging
baskets with Peru in the second
half. DSU's defense limited Peru (1-9)
to just 39-percent, 25-64
field goal shooting.
The Lady T's had a 42-34 rebound edge
over their hosts.
Despite the loss, Peru got
double-digit scoring efforts from Alison
Hill, Leisha Tennal and Laurie Carlson,
who had 13, 12 and 10 points,
respectively.
Off the boards, DSU got eight rebounds
by Gengler and six
each from Becky Smith and Streitz.
