Dakota State University's nationally-ranked Lady T's
will take their 2-0 record up against # 8 Morningside
College here Wednesday after bumping Baker (Kan.)
College 82-55 in a basketball game played at Hastings,
Neb., Friday.
The
Lady T's, ranked No. 9 in the current NAIA national
poll, surged to a 47-24 halftime lead and were never
challenged in the second half.
"We
did a very good job of running the ball," said DSU Coach
Jeff Dittman. "I think we had Baker on the heels
most of the night with our constant pressure."
DSU
was led in scoring by Tricia Boldt, whose 6-for-7 field
goal shooting and 2-3 night at the free throw line
accounted for 15 points. Besides a career high
point output, Tricia also celebrated her birthday that
day.
Jessica
VanLoy and Jill Hansen helped out with 12 point games as
the pair combined for 9-14 field goal shooting, pushing
the Lady T's to
45-percent, 28-62 field goal shooting.
"All our post
players (Jessica, Maria, Laura, and Tricia) did a great
job of reading Baker's defense and finding the open
shooter," added Dittman.
Angela Carr
was right behind with nine points and Laura Tewes and
Maria Gengler had seven points each. Nicole
Geraets contributed four assists and Gengler added four
blocked shots.
On
defense, the Lady T's limited Baker to 24 field goals in
its 60-shot night. DSU also out-rebounded Baker
44-40 as Gengler and Boldt shared team-high honors with
their eight-rebound performances.
Baker got 20 points from Allie Heinen. Aubree
Gustin had 10 rebounds, and Kendra Schaefer and Kaitlin
Schneden each had four assists.
