Dakota State University
defeated both Valley City State
University and Jamestown College
on Friday and Saturday, landing
the Lady T’s alone at the top of
the Dakota Athletic Conference
standings. The wins give DSU a
one-game lead in conference play
with one game remaining,
guaranteeing them a share of the
2007 title. DSU raised their
conference mark to 9-4 and
overall record to 17-10.
On Friday at the DSU
Fieldhouse, the Lady T’s rushed
to an 18-0 first half-opening
lead and then went on to hand
Valley City a 91-57 loss. “Our
starters did a great job of
setting the tone,” stated Dakota
State Coach Jeff Dittman. “We
had great intensity at the
defensive end and that led to a
number of fastbreak
opportunities that we
converted. Our athletes were
very focused for this game.”
Sara Nelson paced DSU’s
balanced offense with 11 points
on 5-for-6 field goal shooting.
Angie Gottsleben , Angela Carr
and Jessica VanLoy each had
ninepoints for the Lady T’s, who
outgunned Valley City 35-19 in
made field goals. Maria Gengler
added eight points, Ashley
Mailey seven and Alyssa Kirk and
Tricia Boldt had six apiece for
DSU.
“I don’t know that I’ve
ever seen a team score 91 points
and have only one athlete reach
double-digit scoring,” commented
Dittman. “All fourteen players
played well tonight. It was a
great team effort at both ends
of the court.”
Laura Tewes led the Lady
T’s to a 48-32 rebound edge with
her nine boards. Boldt added
six rebounds and VanLoy and
Nelson had five apiece.
After reeling off it 18-0
game-opening scoring run, DSU
went on to lead Valley City
46-26 by halftime.
Valley City got 11 points
from Loni Hall and eight apiece
by Mallory Undlin and Abby
Draile. Undlin also had seven
rebounds.
