Dakota State University's Lady
T's claimed the DAC women's
basketball championship Thursday
at Mayville, ND. The Lady
T's earned the women's
championship with an 80-67 win
over Mayville, giving Dakota
State a 10-4 conference mark and
an overall 18-10 record.
Mayville ended the season at
16-14 overall and 7-7 in loop
play.
Dakota
State raced to a 17-point,
41-24, halftime lead and then
held off Mayville's second-half
challenge. Mayville
outscored Dakota State 43-39 in
the game's final 20 minutes.
Senior forward Sara Nelson
powered her way to a career-high
27-point, 9-rebound performance
to lead the Lady T's to the
championship. Laura Tewes
and Angela Carr also had
double-figure scoring shows with
respective 14- and 12-point
outings.
Nicole Geraets and Maria Gengler
also had 9- and 6-point games
for the winners, who shot over
40 percent from the field, going
26-for-63, and having a sharp
23-26 from the charity stripe.
Mayville was led in scoring by
Shonna Soeby, who recorded a
double-double with 21 points and
13 rebounds. She was
followed by Laura Big Crow with
18 points and Kelly Latozke with
13.
Dakota State will be hosting
Dickinson State University
Wednesday in first-round
post-season play at the DSU
Fieldhouse.
