Dakota State University's Lady
T's rebounded from a road loss
at Omaha with a dominant win
over Martin Luther College of
New Ulm, Minn., on Tuesday.
Sparked by scoring runs to open
each half, the Lady T's downed
MLC 83-40.
The Lady T's
(7-3) surged to a 14-0 lead at
the beginning of the ballgame in
the DSU Fieldhouse. Martin
Luther came back to get within
12 points, 36-24, at halftime.
DSU broke open the ballgame with
a 13-3 scoring run in the first
five-plus minutes of the second
half to lead 49-27 and never
looked back. The Lady T's
outscored MLC 47-16 in the
second half.
"We had a good defensive
effort," said DSU Coach Jeff
Dittman. "Overall, our
defense and rebounding were
dominant tonight. We
struggled a little with our
shooting in the first half, but
we got everything going in the
second half, scoring 47 points."
Sara Nelson and Tricia Boldt had
career nights for DSU.
Nelson, who went 6-for-9 from
the field and 8-for-10 at the
charity stripe, pumped in a
game-high 20 points. She
also had five rebounds in the
game.
Boldt swiped the boards for 12
rebounds, helping the Lady T's
to 54 rebounds. Maria
Gengler produced a
double-double, scoring 12 points
and grabbing 10 rebounds.
She was perfect from the field,
going 5-for-5.
Angie Gottsleben also added 10
points and Jill Hansen, Nicole
Geraets and Angela Carr each had
four steals.
DSU had a 31-14 edge in field
goals made and had a huge 54-39
rebound advantage over MLC.
The Lady T's limited MLC to just
one double-figure scorer, Sarah
Seelow, who converted 14 points
on 6-12 field goal shooting.
Seelow also had 11 of MLC's 39
rebounds.
DSU plays again in the
Fieldhouse Wednesday opening its
Dakota Athletic Conference
schedule at 5:30 against
Mayville State University.
