Madison, S.D.--- The Minnesota
State University women's
basketball team earned a
29-point halftime advantage
Sunday before defeating Dakota
State University, 85-65, in the
DSU Field House.
Minnesota State opened the first
half with a 19-6 run that lasted
seven minutes. The team shot a
scorching 64 percent (21-33)
that was fueled by 17 points
from sophomore guard Alex
Andrews (West Concord, Minn.),
marking her career high in just
the one half of play. The Lady
T's (7-5) managed only a 33
percent (9-27) effort and
committed 14 turnovers. By the
intermission, the Mavericks led
by 29 points, 53-24, posting the
most points in the first half
that they have all season.
The Lady T's, ranked No. 18 in
the latest NAIA Top 25 Division
II Women's Basketball Poll (Dec.
13), opened the second half with
an 11-3 run that lasted 4:35.
The point gap between the two
teams got as low as 13 at 73-60
with three minutes remaining in
the game. MSU scored 41 of its
points off the bench, while
Dakota State only scored eight.
The Mavericks shot 49 percent
(32-65) on the game and were led
by Andrews with her second
career double-double of 22
points and 10 rebounds.
Sophomore guards Flecia Foster,
Joanne Noreen and Heather
Johnson also finished in double
digits, scoring 14, 13 and 10
points, respectively. Freshman
guard Tiffany Moe (Brookings,
S.D.) added a season-high six
assists.
DSU finished 24-of-59 (41
percent) from the floor and was
led by guard Jessica Van Loy
with 20 points.
Sunday's contest marked
the first-ever meeting between
MSU and Dakota State. |
