MADISON, S.D.
The Dickinson State fell victim
to a hot shooting night against
Dakota State on Saturday.
With time running out in the
first half, Dakota States
Jessica VanLoy sank a 75-foot
3-pointer to extend her teams
lead from nine points to 12.
Such was the story of the night
for the Blue Hawks, who dropped
a 87-64 decision to Dakota State
in Dakota Athletic Conference
women's basketball.
"We caught them on a night when
they were dropping everything
in," Dickinson State coach
Guy Fridley said. "We were
up guarding them. We played
extremely hard. We showed heart.
That (75-foot shot) doesn't go
in and we only go in (to
halftime) down nine. It could
have been a different ball
game."
Dakota State started the way it
ended fast. The Trojans
got out to a
26-12 lead with less than eight
minutes remaining in the first
half and ended up winning by 23
points. Dakota State shot
58 percent for the game
including an 8 of 16 mark from
3-point range.
"In addition
to our running game, we executed
our half-court sets very well
tonight," said Lady T's Coach
Jeff Dittman. "But that's
only half the task, you still
have to hit the open shot when
you get it. I thought we
had great balance between our
inside game and our outside
shooting. When that
happens, it can be a tough night
for the defense."
"I told them to just hang in
there," Fridley said.
"Keep getting a hand in their
face, they'll start missing
shots."
Dakota States Sara Nelson led
the Trojans with 21 points.
She was one of five in double
figures for the Trojans, who won
their sixth straight game.
Dickinson State was led by
forward Dana Johnson's 17
points. LaDonna Downs had
11 points and 10 rebounds for
the Blue Hawks. Brittni
Pladson added 10. |
