The Black Hills State
women's
basketball team climbed back
into the Dakota Athletic
Conference title chase by taking
a 66-58 comeback win over Dakota
State at the Young Center on
Saturday.
Dakota State and Mayville
came into the weekend tied for
first place in the DAC with 7-2
records, but Black Hills and
South Dakota School of Mines
swept both teams to produce a
log-jam at the top of the
conference standings. Dakota
State, Mayville and Valley City
State are all now 7-4, and BHSU
and Mines both have 6-5 league
marks. Each team has three
conference games remaining on
the schedule.
Black Hills trailed
Dakota State 38-25 with 16:31
left in the game before going on
11-1 run to move to within three
points, 39-36.
Dakota State still led
43-39 with 12:52 left but Black
Hills scored 16 of the game's
next 19 points, including
consecutive 3-pointers by Jaime
Bentley and reserve Brittany
Fuhrman, to go up 55-46.
Bentley added another
bucket from downtown to give the
Jackets a commanding 60-47
advantage with 3:27 to play, and
Black Hills then sank six
consecutive free throws to wrap
up the win.
Bentley led BHSU in
scoring with 13 points, Snjezana
Dojcinovic added 12 points and
nine rebounds, and Buthe and
Fuhrman each tallied 10 points
off the bench.
Buthe and Dojcinovic took
turns defending Dakota State
standout Jessica VanLoy and held
her to only eight points.
Jill Hanson tossed in 12
points to pace the Lady T's in
scoring,
followed by Sara Nelson's 10
counters.
"Beating Mayville and
Dakota State this weekend is
such a confidence builder for
us," said Nore, whose team is
now 15-10 overall while Dakota
State slipped to 14-10. |
