Dakota State University
never got its offense going Tuesday as the Lady T's
suffered a decisive 62-41 loss to Mt. Marty College in
Yankton. The Lady Lancers limited DSU to just
13-for-42 field goal shooting and didn't allow any Lady
T to enter double-figure scoring.
Mt. Marty had a 30-20
halftime lead and then outscored DSU 32-21 in the second
half, getting a 21-point, 8-rebound performance by
Carrie Ahlers and 14 more tallies by Tevan Wenbourne.
"Mt. Marty's defense
handles us the entire game," said DSU Coach Jeff
Dittman. "They were successful at forcing us out
of our offensive sets, and they kept the ball out of our
post player's hands, forcing us to take a number of
tough shots. We shot just 31 percent from the
field as a result of their pressure."
Angela Carr was DSU's
leading scorer with eight points. Jill Hansen
followed with seven points, Amber Malvin six, and
Jessica VanLoy and Laura Tewes each five. Maria
Gengler and Sara Nelson each had seven rebounds for the
Lady T's.
Mt. Marty produced 16
steals in the contest, compared to DSU's seven.
"We are turning the ball over too much and losing our
composure at both ends of the court," said Dittman.
"They also did a good job of keeping us off the
offensive boards."
In addition to the
scoring of Ahlers and Wenbourne, Mt. Marty got eight
points apiece by Brandi Trudeau and Amy Bigge to help
the Lady Lancers to 26 of 62 field goal shooting.
"Hopefully, we
learned a few things about ourselves tonight that will
benefit us throughout the rest of the season," concluded
Dittman.
DSU plays in the
Minot State Classic in Minot, N.D., this weekend.
The Lady T's play #10 ranked Carroll College on Friday
and Rocky Mountain College on Saturday.
