SPEARFISH -- Since the Young Center opened its doors in 1990, the home court for the Black Hills State University women's basketball team has been a "House of Horrors" for Dakota State.   The Lady T's won only two of the 15 games the two teams had played in Spearfish prior to Friday's matchup.   Dakota State ended the frustration, capturing a 64-58 win over BHSU in the Dakota Athletic Conference contest.

The win vaulted Dakota State atop the DAC standings.  Dakota State improved to 5-1 in the DAC and 12-5 overall. BHSU slipped to 3-1 in the conference and 9-7 overall. The Lady T's have won five games in a row and 10 of their last 12, while the Lady Jackets have lost three games in a row.

Angela Carr paced a trio of Lady T's in double-figure scoring with 18 points.  Jill Hansen contributed 13 and Jessica VanLoy added 10.  Brittney Klipfel poured in a game-high 23 points for Black Hills State.

"It's not often that you shoot 30 percent and win a game," said Dakota State coach Jeff Dittman.  The Lady T's converted only 30 percent of their shot attempts in the contest.

"2000 was our last win in Spearfish," said Dittman.  "That was the year we made it into the Elite Eight (NAIA Division II Women's National Basketball Tournament).   It was an important win if we want a chance to compete for the conference championship.  A loss would have put us two games behind Black Hills."

"We haven't been playing well offensively," said BHSU coach Nore. "We were really flat offensively.  Twenty-eight turnovers just killed us. We're thinking too much. The mistakes we're making are not forced."

Dakota State hurt BHSU on the offensive glass in the first glass, as the visitors held a 27-24 halftime advantage.  "They are leading the league in offensive rebounds," said coach Nore.  "If we're not putting a body on them, they're going to get us."

Alexis Krull assisted Jaime Bentley with a layup, presenting BHSU with a 47-44 edge in the second half.  However, Dakota State rattled off the game's next 14 points, claiming a 58-47 lead.

"I don't think either coach is happy with their offense," said Dittman. "However, I was pleased with our execution the last five minutes of the game.  We've got a lot of sophomores and little by little, they're growing up and showing they can handle the challenges of playing in big games."
