Dakota State University's Lady T's took an early lead in the
DAC-10 women's basketball standings by dishing out road wins over Minot State (73-60) Friday and Dickinson State (79-54) Saturday.  With the wins, Jeff Dittman's Lady T's ran their overall record to 8-2 and 2-0 in the conference.

"This was a great effort for the opening weekend of conference play," said Dittman. "We were able to pick up two road wins against quality teams in our league. Now, we have to play with the same kind of effectiveness against Valley City State and Mayville State at home this Friday and Saturday."

Lady T's 79, Dickinson 54

With Stacy Dunklau and Laura Tewes entering double-figure displays of 14 and 13 points and both hauling in 10 rebounds, the Lady Trojans outplayed Dickinson (4-5, 1-1) Saturday.

"We were able to take advantage of our height by going to Stacy and Laura," said Dittman. "Then, when the defense tried to help, Angie Carr (who wound up with nine points) hit 3-for-5 from beyond the three-point arc."

Renae Bottum and Andrea Gullickson also scored six points apiece as Dakota State outgunned Dickinson 32-19 in field goals.

Sara Berglund, April Tormansche and Stacy Milanovich all had double-digit scoring for Dickinson, contributing, respectively 14, 11 and 11 points.

The Lady T's, which led 44-26 at halftime, also created a huge 45-29 rebound edge over Dickinson.  "Our defense was able to put a lot of pressure on their shots, and for the most part, we were able to hold them to only one shot each possession," said Dittman.

Lady T's 73, Minot 60

Dakota State overcame a 32-30 halftime deficit against Minot Friday and put together a 43-28 second half.  "We held them to just one point in the first eight minutes of the second half while scoring 14 points to build an 11-point lead," said Dittman. "Minot made a couple of runs at us in the last five minutes, but the combined 6-for-8 freethrow shooting by Angie and Stacy allowed us to hold them off and pick up the win."

Dakota State's Maria Gengler had a 17-point game for herself and led all scorers. The Lady T's also got 14 more points from Tewes and a dozen by Dunklau.  Tewes' seven rebounds and seven more from Dunklau helped the Lady T's outrebound Minot 39-21.

Minot got 16 points from Rashawna Mays, along with 11 more from Brandy Howard and 10 by Kendra Meyer.
