Dakota State
University's Lady T's are closer to a possible
berth in the NAIA Women's Tournament after a win
(67-55) over Minot State University (17-12)
Wednesday in first-round DAC-10 Playoff action
at Minot. The Lady T's (17-12) will travel
to Rapid City Saturday to play South Dakota
Tech, 83-55 winners over Valley City State.
In other first-round playoff action, Jamestown
College defeated Black Hills State University
74-68 and the University of Mary beat Si Tanka-Huron
96-74.
Last weekend at the DSU Fieldhouse, Minot State
handed the Lady T's a 69-63 defeat. On
Wednesday, however, the Lady T's outgunned
Minot, sparked by Amber Malvin and Stacy
Dunklau, who had 14- and 12-point outings.
Dunklau had an almost-perfect 6-for-7 field goal
shooting display, while Malvin went 5-8 as the
Lady T's shot 48 percent, 24-50, from the field.
The Lady T's were 12-of-16 at the charity
stripe.
DSU got scoring from five other Lady T's,
including 9 points each by Renae Bottum and Jill
Hansen. Amanda Zephier and Sara Nelson
each added eight and Maria Gengler had seven.
After leading by a slim 28-27 halftime margin,
DSU went on a 39-28 scoring tear in the second
half to assure the Lady T's of a 12-point win.
The Lady T's outrebounded Minot 37-25.
Dunklau and Zephier led the way with 8 rebounds
apiece. Bottum and Hansen paced the Lady
T's on defense, garnering two steals each.
Bottum, Dunklau, Angie Carr and Zephier each
dished out two assists. DSU's defense
limited Minot State to just 20-60 field goal
shooting and 9-17 from the free throw line.
Kendra Meyer and Betsy Vig were Minot's only
double-figure scorers, having 14 and 10 points,
respectively. Jennifer Sundahl added nine
points, Rashawna Mays eight and Brenda Robinson
seven. Sundahl and Mays were Minot's top
rebounders, claiming seven and six rebounds,
respectively. Vig also dished out six
assists and Brandon Howard had three steals.
