Dakota State University slipped into a fourth-place tie in DAC-10 women's basketball play this past weekend in North Dakota.  The Lady T's lost 73-55 to Jamestown College Friday and 78-56 Saturday to the University of Mary in Bismarck.

Overall, DSU is 15-11.  The Lady T's are tied with Minot State and Black Hills State in the conference standings, while nationally-ranked Mary, at 25-2 overall, tops the league at 16-1, followed by S.D. Tech at 10-6 and Jamestown 10-7.

#4 U. of Mary 78, DSU 56

Mary essentially put away the Lady T's at the charity stripe, outscoring DSU 29-5 from the freethrow line.  "We battled Mary pretty well throughout the game," said Lady T's Coach Jeff Dittman.  "Until the last five minutes, this was a single-digit game, but fatigue became a bit of a factor down the stretch for us as we were forced to play some people long minutes due to foul problems.  We just killed ourselves at the freethrow line tonight, shooting only 28 percent."

Mary (25-2 overall) led the Lady T's by just eight points, 39-31, at halftime.

Andrea Ronderos collected a game-high 18 points for the Lady Marauders, followed by 17-point games by Jessica Zundel and Natalie Brunner and 12 from Kara McGuinness.  Zundel completed a double-double with 12 rebounds.

DSU got 13 points from Sara Nelson and 10-point displays by Ashlei Fawbush and Amanda Zephier.  The Lady T's had four more field goals, 25-21, than Mary but the Marauders had a 7-1 edge in converting 3's.  Zephier also had seven rebounds, Stacy Dunklau and Nelson each had six, and Sandy Smith added five.

Jamestown 75, DSU 55

Jamestown surged to a 40-22 first half-ending lead, which helped keep the Jimmies ahead in the second half even though the Lady T's matched Jamestown point for point.

"We had some good individual performances in this game, but we didn't play well as a team," cited Dittman.  DSU got double-figure scoring from Jill Hansen, who netted 12 points, and Angie Carr, who had 10.  Fawbush and Laura Tewes each had eight points, Stacy Dunklau six and Nelson five.  Dunklau and Maria Gengler also had five rebounds apiece.

"Stacy did an excellent job at the post all night," added Dittman.  "Jill and Ashlei also had very good games on the perimeter.  Unfortunately, we couldn't generate consistent offense throughout the game, and that ended up being our downfall.  We had two scoring droughts of five or more minutes, and during that time, Jamestown put together a steady, solid run."

Erin Carl, Lindsey Ness and Nicole Nold each had 12 points for the winners, while Brietta Bowerman had 11 as the Jimmies outgunned the Lady T's 27-23 in field goals.  Ness also had seven rebounds as the Jimmies outrebounded DSU 26-24.

The Lady T's take a .500, 8-8 conference mark into play this weekend at home against Dickinson and Minot State Universities.
