Leading Dakota Wesleyan by just three points 31-28 at halftime, Dakota State's Lady T's dominated DWU's Lady Tigers in the second half to nail down a 69-52 non-conference women's basketball win Tuesday at the DSU Fieldhouse  The Lady T's (2-1) gave up just 24 second-half points while scoring 38 of their own to gain the win.

DSU's defensive display pleased Coach Jeff Dittman.  "I'm starting to see our team gel on defense," said Dittman. "We are being very aggressive, yet smart. We are attacking in opportune moments and realizing when we have an advantage. Our defense is creating offense for us. We are averaging 10 to 25 points a game in fast-break opportunities."

Angie Carr
18 points, 5 steals
Laura Tewes
12 points, 10 rebounds

DSU got double-figures scoring from Angie Carr, Laura Tewes and Maria Gengler, who had 18, 12 and 10 points, respectively.  Carr, Tewes and Gengler combined for 17-for-38 field goal shooting as the Lady T's outgunned DWU 30-19 in field goals.

Amanda Zephier came through with eight points for the winners, who also got six by Andrea Gullickson, five from Jessica Van Loy and four by Renae Bottum.  Both teams had 24 turnovers in the ballgame.

In addition to their dominance in shooting, the Lady T's also built a 20-rebound, 52-32 rebound cushion against DWU.  "I also think we are doing a great job on the boards," added Dittman. "We were missing a lot of `first shots' but by grabbing 21 offensive rebounds, we were able to counter our poor shooting at times.'  Tewes and Van Loy each claimed 10 rebounds and Zephier had nine for the Lady T'. Gengler and Gullickson each added eight.

DWU, which saw its mark dip to 1-5, got double-digit scoring from Tacey Nielsen and Kara Overweg, who garnered 12 and 11 points, respectively.  Brooke Scott, Katie Lewis and Jenny Bridge followed with 7-, 6- and 5-point contributions.  Off the boards, DWU got 11 rebounds by Nielsen and seven more from Overweg.

``I really liked the intensity we played with last night,'' concluded Dittman. "We made a lot of mistakes, but they were mistakes of aggression, not omission."

DSU will play in the Northwestern Invitational at Orange City, Iowa, Friday and Saturday. The Lady T's take on Waldorf College at 2 p.m. Friday, followed by host-team Northwestern playing York (Neb.) College at 4 p.m.  Saturday's third-place game is at 2 p.m. and the championship at 4 p.m.
