"Defensively, we played pretty well in the
first half, holding Briar Cliff to 21 points and
forcing 18 turnovers," said DSU Coach Jeff Dittman.
"Unfortunately, we couldn't convert a lot of those
turnovers into points because of all our traveling
violations. We also hurt ourselves with missed
lay-ups and free throws."
The Lady T's were just 1-8 in 3-point
shooting and 11-19 at the charity stripe.
"In the second half, we got dominated," added
Dittman. "We were always a
step behind and allowed Briar Cliff to move the ball
anywhere they wanted."
Briar Cliff (7-10) was paced by Betsy Graf's
21-point performance, which was comprised of
8-for-14 field goal shooting and a
5-7 showing at the charity stripe.
There were no other double-figure Briar Cliff
scorers. Kayla Boyd and Dana Lehner each had nine
points, and Krystal Pappas added seven as Briar
Cliff shot 22-48 from the field, including four
3-pointers, and went a game-deciding 18-24 at the
free throw line.
Briar Cliff also got four assists from Pappas and
three apiece by Karpuk and Lehner.
"They (Briar Cliff) did anything they wanted,
and we couldn't seem to match their intensity,"
concluded Dittman.
The Lady T's (11-5) were led by Maria Gengler, who
had 14 points, aided by 5-8 field goal shooting.
Jessica Van Loy had 11 points on 5-12 field goal
shooting. DSU also
got eight points by Angie Carr as the Lady T's went
24-52 from the field.
Carr also had three assists for DSU.
DSU lost the game despite a
14-rebound, 38-24, rebound edge over Briar Cliff.
Gengler contributed nine rebounds and Sara
Nelson had eight for the Lady T's, while Lehner had
six rebounds, Graf five and Ali Karpuk four for the
winners.
The Lady T's travel to Huron Thursday to play Si
Tanka-Huron University in a 5:30 p.m. DAC-10 game.
