Dakota State University's basketball-playing Trojans salvaged a 1-1 Black Hills tour with a 77-69 win over 19th-ranked South Dakota Tech Saturday in Rapid City.  It was the Lady Hardrockers' first loss in conference play this season. Tech's mark dropped to 4-1, while the Lady T's are now 4-2 and third in the conference.  Tech is a game behind the University of Mary, which is 5-0.

"We got behind by 19 points, 23-4, but had a tremendous run that allowed us to come back and take a 3-point (33-30) lead at halftime," said Lady T's Coach Jeff Dittman. "This was a huge win for us that kept us in the hunt in the DAC-10 conference. Had we gone 0-2 on this road trip, we may have taken ourselves out of any chance in the league's race."

The Lady T's (10-4 overall) suffered a heart-wrenching 66-63 loss to Black Hills State Friday in Spearfish.

DSU 77, Tech 69

On Saturday, DSU got double-figure scoring from four Lady T's, led by Angie Carrr's 19-point performance, which included four 3-pointers in DSU's first-half rally.  Sara Nelson and Renae Bottum each netted 12 points and Maria Gengler had 10.  DSU earned a 27-20 field goal edge over Tech, but the Lady Hardrockers outscored the Lady T's 25-17 from the freethrow line.

The Lady T's also had a 39-28 rebound edge over Tech, with Nelson hauling in eight rebounds, Gengler seven and Jessica VanLoy six.  Carr had seven assists and Bottum had four.  Carr had three steals.

The Trojans overcame a 25-point outing by Tech's Stacie Vedvei.  Her sister Melanie added 18 points and Quinn Godecke had 12 to complete the Lady Hardrockers' double-figure scoring.  Melanie Vedvei also had seven steals and four assists.

BHSU 66, DSU 63

The Lady T's couldn't quite come back from a 15-point, 36-21, halftime deficit, despite outscoring Black Hills State 42-30 in the second half.

"We let Black Hills State dominate the game in the first half," admitted Dittman.  "We were lucky not to be further behind.  In the second half, we played much better, but it's not very often you overcome a 15-point deficit and beat a team on the road."

Gengler had a 19-point game in the Black Hills State contest.  Nelson added 13 points and Stacy Dunklau had 10.  The Lady T's had a 25-22 field goal edge over BHSU.  VanLoy had seven rebounds and Dunklau five for the Lady T's.

The Yellow Jackets had five 3-pointers and outscored DSU 17-12 at the freethrow line.  Brittney Klipfel had 18 points, Jaime Bentley 17 and Jill Thomas 10 for the winners.  Black Hills State outrebounded the Lady T's 26-27, with Klipfel grabbing 11 rebounds.

The Lady T's next action comes Dec. 30th when they host Mount Marty College in the DSU Fieldhouse at 7:00 p.m.
