Mt.
Marty College spoiled Amber Malvin's 30-point scoring
explosion for Dakota State University Friday in Yankton as
Mount Marty handed the Lady T's a 96-71 women's college
basketball loss. It was the Lady T's first loss of the season after posting
three consecutive wins at the DSU Fieldhouse.
"We
got an excellent performance from Amber Malvin," said
DSU Coach Jeff Dittman. "She was aggressive and
attacked Mt. Marty's defense very well." On the night, Malvin went 8-of-13 from the field,
manufacturing a third of DSU's 24-48 field goal shooting.
She also converted five of her seven 3-pointers into
points. She was also 9-11 at the charity stripe.
Renae Bottum had a
good first half offensively for the Lady T's, scoring 10 of her 12
game points. That helped DSU stay within scoring
distance of Mt. Marty, which led 45-40 at halftime.
Backed by its 20 offensive rebounds, Mt. Marty was able to
put up 35-70 field goal shooting numbers and power the
Lady Lancers to a 51-31 second-half scoring surge.
"Even though we shot 50 percent from the field for
the game and over 50 percent (6-11) from the three-point
line, we just couldn't keep pace with all the second shots
we were allowing Mt. Marty," added Dittman.
Six different Lady Lancers entered double-figure scoring,
led by a trio of former Tre-Valley players, Amy Bigge and
Jamy and Jessica Eckstaine. Bigge arched in 18
points, followed by Jamy Eckstaine with 17 and Jessica
Eckstaine 16. Jessica Krull scored 13 points, Erin
Case 11 and Gwen Meyer 10. Mt. Marty's 42-22 rebound
edge was helped in large part by Gwen Meyer's seven
rebounds. Bigge and Melissa Schmidt had six nabs
apiece.
Andrea Gullickson scored nine points and Hali McClelland
and Sara Nelson each had six for the Lady T's.
Bottum and McClelland each had four rebounds.
The Lady T's take to the Corn Palace floor in Mitchell
Tuesday, playing #2 nationally-ranked Dakota Wesleyan
University at 6 p.m.
