Dakota State University's Lady Trojans held
Dordt College prisoner in the second half of
Thursday's women's college basketball game
in the DSU Fieldhouse. DSU won 74-46 to
continue their winning streak.
Leading by just six
points at halftime, the Lady T's defense
shut down Dordt College in the second half,
limiting the Lady Defenders to just
6-for-35, 17-percent field goal shooting in
the game's final 20 minutes.
DSU also staged a 55-percent, 17-31
performance on offense in the same timespan.
"Again, we
played very well in the second half,"
said DSU Coach Jeff Dittman. "In
addition to limiting Dordt to only 17 points
and 17-percent shooting from the field, we
also kept Dordt off the boards, giving up
only nine offensive rebounds."
Hali McClelland,
Sara Nelson and Andrea Gullickson
contributed double-figures scoring for the
Lady T's, garnering, respectively, 23, 14
and 10 points. DSU shot a healthy 30-60, 50
percent. "We had a lot of people
contributing," added Dittman. "Hali
led all scorers...on 9-10 shooting from the
field and 5-5 at the freethrow line.
"Sara recorded
double digits in rebounds with 11. Renae
Bottum led the team in assists with six,
while Amber Malvin dished out five more. It
was a great all-around effort by our
team," he said. Gullickson had
eight rebounds and McClelland seven.
The Lady T's went 11-15 at the free throw
line.
Chelsea Gerdes was
Dordt's only double-figures scorer, netting
10 points. Jenna O'Neill and Colleen DeGroot
each had seven points, and Katie Bleeker and
Rachel Schutte had six-point displays.
Dordt was just 18-60 from the field and 7-12
at the charity stripe.
"We were able
to stay perfect at home after three
games," said Dittman. "But, now we
hit the road for the next two
contests." DSU travels to Yankton
Friday (tonight) to play Mount Marty College
and then visits Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell
Tuesday. "These games will help
us evaluate how far we have come with our
young team," concluded Dittman. |
