Dakota State University's NAIA Div. II Lady
Trojans were dropped 95-48 by the University of
North Dakota in college women's basketball action
at Grand Forks, N.D., Friday. DSU (3-2)
stayed with UND through the early going of the
game, but UND took off in the last part of the
first half to create a 47-25 halftime lead.
"We played pretty
solid basketball for the majority of the first
half," said Jeff Dittman, the Lady T's head
coach. "We were down by six points, 16-22,
with about seven minutes remaining, but UND went
on a 25-9 run to finish out the first half."
Offensively, DSU was led
by Amy Balk, Hali McClelland and Jessica Honermann,
who had respective 13-, 10- and 9-point scoring
nights as the Lady T's went 16-of-46 from the
field and 15-19 at the charity stripe.

"A bright spot for us was our press
offense," added Dittman. "UND came at us
for about 30 minutes, and we were able to break
their press for a number of easy
baskets." UND's defense, however, came
through forcing the Lady T's into 35 turnovers,
which was a key to the game's final score,
according to Dittman.
"UND's half-court pressure forced us into 35
turnovers, and most of those resulted in fast
break opportunities," said Dittman.
The chances enabled UND's
Becky Moen to bucket 25 game-high points. She was
followed by Kristi Boese and Marisa Leighton, who
each had 15 counters, helping the winners to a
healthy 37-69 field goal shooting, including five
3-pointers, and a 16-21 tour at the charity
stripe.
UND also had a 43-26 rebound edge over the Lady
T's.
Honermann and McClelland
each had four rebounds for DSU while UND got seven
from Megan Glynn and six from Leighton.
On Tuesday, the Lady T's
travel to Orange City, Iowa, to take on
seventh-ranked Northwestern. |
