tilt-tops double-double, garnering 19 points and hauling in 11
rebounds to spark the Lady T's victory. Malvin added 12
points.
McClelland netted 15 of her 19 points in the second half.
Jeff Dittman, DSU's head coach, was especially pleased with the
work of McClelland and Malvin. "Hali had a very solid
night overall," said Dittman. "Amber, a freshman, also
had an excellent game."
Honermann
added 10 counters as the Lady T's produced 23-of-53, 43-percent
field goal shooting (including 7-19 in 3's), complemented by a
15-22 tour at the charity stripe.
DSU outrebounded Dordt 40-35 with Nielsen and Sonne each tacking
on six rebounds.
DSU, which led 30-25 at halftime, put together a 38-28 second half
to nail down the 15-point win. Dordt scored the first five
points of the game, but DSU came back with a 12-0 scoring run to
take command of the game and never trailed from that point on.
"We played an excellent defensive game throughout the
night," added Dittman. "We controlled the boards,
limiting their second-shot opportunities.
"Offensively in the second half, we played a very well,
shooting 48 percent and turning the ball over just six times. The
telling point of our first half's play was our 16 turnovers."
Dordt (1-1) got 15 points from Shawna Flikkema, 10 more by Katie
Bleeker and respective 8- and 7-point games from Rachel Schutte
and Colleen DeGroot. Rachel Van Beek had a team-high eight
rebounds for Dordt, which also got six rebounds apiece from De
Groot and Bleeker.
Dordt shot just 18-56 (32 percent) from the field and 13-18 at the
free throw line.
The Lady T's next action comes in the USF Classic Friday and
Saturday. On Friday, DSU plays #7 nationally ranked Northwestern
Iowa at 6 p.m. in the Stewart Center at Sioux Falls and on
Saturday, the Lady T's face the #25 University of Sioux Falls in a
