Jessica Honermann, Trisha Grablander and Hali McClelland
shot Dakota State University past Huron University 70-47 in
DAC-10 opening conference women's basketball action Saturday
at Huron.
Honermann, Grablander and McClelland entered double-figures
scoring territory with their respective games of 17, 14 and
11 points, helping the Lady Trojans (4-5 overall) to
49-percent, 26-of-53, field goal shooting.
"Offensively, I thought we did a much better job of
having patience and selecting our shots," said Jeff
Dittman, DSU's head coach. "We shot 49 percent from the
field with Jessica hitting 6-9 and putting in 17 points (and
hauling in seven rebounds). Because of our patience and ball
movement, we were able to get better shots that we put
in."
DSU forged a 12-point, 35-23,
halftime lead and never looked back, outscoring Huron 35-24
in the game's final 20 minutes.
"In the last few games, we
have been trying to create too many scoring
opportunities," added Dittman. "Tonight, we let
the shots come to us. We also ran the court in transition
out of missed shots and steals (13) and picked up 22 points
in fastbreak lay-ups."
Dittman noted the off-the-bench
play of Grablander, who, in addition to scoring 14 points,
had four assists and three steals; McClelland, who also had
four rebounds; and Teresa Hildebrand, contributing seven
points and six rebounds.

"This gave us a big boost in the first half," said
Dittman. "Also, our defense was outstanding. We held
Huron under 50 points and allowed them to shoot only 26
percent (13-50) from the field. Along with that, our
rebounding didn't give them many second
opportunities." DSU had a decided 43-28 rebound
edge over the Screaming Eagles.
Huron got 20 tilt-tops points from
Ruth Buffalo, who was 5-12 in field goal shooting and 10-12
at the charity stripe. She also yanked down 10 rebounds.
Sunshine Archambault collected 11 counters for Huron.
The Lady T's travel to N.D. this
weekend, playing the University of Mary in Bismarck Friday
and Jamestown College in Jamestown Saturday.
