Holding the DAC-10
Conference's leading team to just 67 points Saturday wasn't
enough for Dakota State University's Lady Trojans, who
suffered a 67-61 loss to Minot State on the Lady Beavers'
home court. A night earlier, the Lady T's (6-17
overall and 2-11 in conference play) suffered a 65-41 defeat
to Dickinson State at Dickinson.
"We did an excellent job of
competing and executing against an outstanding offensive
team," said Jeff Dittman, the Lady T's head coach.
"Minot is tied for first in the league and had just
scored 106 points against Huron University the night before.
We held them to 27 points in the first half and kept their
three-point shooting under control. The second half, we made
a couple defensive mistakes and gave up a couple three-point
shots -- which turned out to be the difference in the
game."
Jennie Sonne led DSU's offense
against Minot, garnering 16 points. Trisha Grablander added
12 and Erin Nielsen had 10 as the Lady T's went 24-of-53 in
field goals and 11-17 in free throws. Jessica
Honermann claimed seven of the Lady T's 24 rebounds.
Minot State was gifted by Jaime
Lamoureux, who had a game-high 19 points, followed by Angela
Goodman's 14 counters and twin 11-point outings from Kayla
Blom and Lyndsi Johnson.
Dickinson
65, Lady T's 41
The Lady T's were ill-prepared for Dickinson Friday,
according to Dittman, and his women paid for it, losing a
lopsided 65-41 decision.
DSU was behind 50-15 at halftime and never caught up.
"We embarrassed ourselves the
first half," said Dittman. "We weren't ready to
play and Dickinson took it to us. It wasn't that we didn't
work hard, we didn't have the concentration we needed to
play a team like Dickinson on the road. The second half, we
gave a better accounting for ourselves, but it didn't excuse
our first-half performance."
Stacie Schorsch paced Dickinson's
offense, netting 15 points and completing a double-double
performance with 11 rebounds. Sara Berglund added 12
tallies, Jessica Kinnebrew nine and Darcy Schmeling eight.
DSU got 10 points from Hali
McClelland, seven from Honermann and six by Nielsen as
Dickinson had a 22-17 field goal edge and outscored the Lady
T's 14-6 in free throw successes.
