Jeff Dittman's Lady T's guaranteed themselves a share of the first Dakota-10 Conference title with their weekend sweep of Black Hills State and S.D. Tech and put themselves in the driver's seat for the league's automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.

Dakota State, 20-7 overall, set up its title-taker Friday with a 72-46 win over S.D. Tech.  On Saturday, the Lady T's beat the Yellowjackets of Black Hills State 74-66.

As of late Saturday, Dakota State had a one game lead over Huron University and a game-and-a-half lead over Black Hills State with their 13-4 league record.

Dakota State got 19 tilt-tops points from Kathy Shypulski on Saturday, and the Lady T's also got a pair of 12-tally games from Jessica Honermann and Hali McClelland in what Dittman called an eclectic contest.

"This game was a tale of two halves," Dittman said. "The first half was dominated by defense. Both teams were very aggressive and points were hard to come by. The second half, the offenses took over and the two teams scored 89 total points. We shot 72 percent from the field for the half, while Black Hills hit 54 percent of their shots."

Dittman cited the defensive play of Erin Nielsen, Honermann and McClelland against "Black Hills' very talented front line."  Dakota State also got a pair of nine-point games from Jennie Sonne and Heidi Honermann.

BHSU's top scorer was Amanda Schelle with 17 second-half points, followed by Darci Reinicke and Becky Schultz each with a dozen points and Melissa Braegger with 10.

On Friday, it was Shypulski's 33-point performance which helped the Lady T's produce a surprisingly lopsided 72-46 win over S.D. Tech.

"This was our best overall performance of the year," said Dittman. "We played well at both the offensive and defensive ends of the court, and we did an excellent job of rebounding (42-35). We got off to a 9-0 lead from the start and kept our intensity throughout the game.

"Tech is one of the top scoring teams in the league, yet we were able to hold them to 33-percent field goal shooting. We did a great job of pressuring the ball and anticipating the pass, forcing them into 30 turnovers."

Dakota State also got 14 counters from Jennie Sonne, seven more by Nielson and six by Jessica Honermann.

Nielson had seven rebounds, Jessica Honermann six and Sonne five for the Lady T's.

Tech was sparked by Krystal Kubas' 10 points, while Amy Wilson and Miaken Ziegler each had seven.
