The 2000-01 Lady T's of Dakota State opened their scrimmage schedule against Iowa Lakes Community College on Friday afternoon. While scrimmage rules do not allow the teams to keep score, the following is Coach Jeff Dittman's evaluation of the Lady T's performance. "I thought we did some things pretty well. Overall, our rebounding was excellent. We were able to limit Iowa Lakes' second shot opportunities while getting a number of second shots ourselves." "Second, I thought our defense was very aggressive. We were able to put pressure on our opponent in both our man and zone defenses and created a number of transition baskets. This will be a big part of our game until we are able to gain some confidence and cohesion in our half-court offense." "Our offense has some need of work. We got some baskets in transition but this won't carry us for very long. Pretty soon teams will be in shape and will have seen, and defended, enough fast breaks that we will have to have a solid half-court game. But, with the loss of five seniors, we are working to learn each others strengths, where they want the ball, timing, etc. It's going to take awhile before we feel comfortable with each other." "I thought we had some excellent performances today. Jessica and Heidi Honermann did a good job at both ends of the court. Kathy Shypulski helped us at the offensive end with scoring and setting up others for scoring opportunities. Jennie Sonne did a good job inside giving us a strong low post threat and Erin Nielsen was very dominant at the defensive end. A couple of freshmen who had solid games were Hali McClelland and Amy Balk. I think both have come a long way in only three weeks." The Lady T's next scrimmage will be Saturday, Oct. 28th. DSU plays Dakota Wesleyan at 9:00 a.m. in the DSU Fieldhouse, then matches up against Northwestern College of Iowa at 12:00 noon. Northwestern will probably be tabbed #1 in the NAIA pre-season polls with NAIA Player of the Year Rachael Binneboese returning for her senior season. At 6:00, the Lady T's will play their annual Alumni Game against the stars of the past. Prior to the start of the game, we will unveil the NAIA "Elite Eight" banner from last season's National Tournament campaign. We hope everyone will turn out for a great day of basketball and a fun reunion with the former Lady T's.
