Jeff Dittman's Lady Trojans shot Dakota State University to the Security Bank Tournament championship Sunday in Madison.

Ignited by the double-figure performances of Jennie Sonne, Hali McClelland and Jessica Honermann, DSU (6-2) raced by Mount Marty College 67-52 in the championship, played on the DSU Fieldhouse hardwood.

Sonne, who went 5-for-6 from the field, came through with a team-high 13 points.  She was followed by McClelland with 12 tallies and Jessica Honermann with 10 as the Lady T's charred the nets with almost 50-percent field goal shooting, going 22-47 for the game.

DSU also got nine points from Kathy Shypulski and a pair of eight-point games from Heidi Honermann and Amy Balk.

DSU fought hard for an eight-point, 28-20, first-half-ending lead.  In addition to outgunning Mount Marty 22-18 in field goals and 20-13 at the charity stripe, DSU won the boards battle 44-31 with Heidi Honermann swiping the boards for eight rebounds.  McClelland and Sonne each added seven.

"We won the game with an outstanding rebounding effort," said Dittman.  "We were able to get 16 second-chance points.  It also allowed us to get to the free throw line where we converted 20 of 27 free throws."

For its part, Mount Marty got a game-high 19-point display from Emily Fletcher, who went 7-16 from the field including three 3's.  No other Lady Lancer, however, garnered double-digit scoring figures with Jen Husman and Renae Heiden getting twin seven-point games.  Heiden and Eliza Leloux each had four rebounds for the Lady Lancers.

"Our defense again allowed us to get through the offensive droughts that have plagued us this season," added Dittman.  "Except for four minutes at the end of the second half, I thought our defense was very effective.  We held Mount Marty to 32-percent field goal shooting and gave up only nine turnovers."

Lady T's 71
Mount Senario  32

DSU bowled over Mount Senario College 71-32 Saturday to get into the championship.  The Lady T's enjoyed a 19-point, 30-11, halftime bulge and never looked back against the Lady Saints.

"We had an outstanding effort defensively," said Dittman.  "We allowed only 11 points in the first half and forced 23 turnovers.  We were very focused and intense, and that was the key to getting our early lead."

Kathy Shypulski and Jessica Honermann each collected 11 counters, while Heidi Honermann and Hali McClelland each had nine, Erin Nielsen eight and Jennie Sonne seven.

"We did a good job offensively and got a number of people involved," added Dittman.  "The only negative was our three-point shooting the first half; we only hit one of 14 attempts.  We were able to compensate with fastbreak points caused by our defense and with offensive rebounding."

Mount Senario got a 12-point outing from Deanna Roehl.  Jill Byrne also got six points and Raven Henderson five.

Sonne and Nielsen each had seven rebounds for the Lady T's while Roehl had seven for Mount Senario.

Third-Place Game

Mount Senario claimed third-place honors with a come-from-behind 65-64 win over York College in Sunday's early game.

York had led by nine points, 36-27, at halftime, but Mount Senario outscored York by 10 points, 38-28, in the second half to earn the win.

Mount Senario got 21 points from Byrne, 18 by Roehl and 14 from Laura Dobbs.  Megan Hieb also had a huge day off the boards, coming down with 18 rebounds for the Lady Saints.

York got 16 tallies by Hollie Keith and respective 11- and 10-points outings from Amanda DeBerry and Karissa Gaer.  Kim Dreher had eight rebounds and Misty Wellman seven for the Panthers.
