DAC-10 Pair

Jeff Dittman's Lady Trojans from Dakota State University lifted themselves to the top of DAC-10 league Friday and Saturday with respective 79-61 and 68-58 wins over the University of Mary and Jamestown College at the DSU Fieldhouse. DSU, now 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference, travel to Minot and Dickinson, N.D., this Friday and Saturday, respectively, to play Minot State and Dickinson State Lady T's 79 DSU built on an eight-point, 43-35 halftime lead, with a 36-26 scoring surge in the second half to nail down the 18-point victory. "We had an outstanding effort against the University of Mary," said Dittman. "We knew they were a physical team that can execute their offense, shoot the ball and control the boards." Jennie Sonne had a huge night, netting a team-top 24 points, trailed closely by Kathy Shypulski with 19. Jessica Honermann added 11 counters.
"Jennie did a tremendous job of establishing an inside game, scoring 21 of
her 24 points on 10-of-13 field goal shooting," added Dittman.
"Kathy not only hit the outside jumper, scoring 19 points on 4-8
three-point field goals, but also penetrated and had five assists." Dittman was pleased that the Lady T's limited Mary to 26 points on 38-percent field goal shooting in the second half. "We made Mary work for every point," said Dittman. "Heidi (Honermann) was a defensive terror, picking up seven steals for the night." Mary got 16 points from Jessica Anderson and 10 more by Jan Andring. Lady T's 68 Erin Nielsen sparked DSU's stifling defense, according to Dittman. "The key to the game was our defense and, in particular, the job Erin did on Keri Bakker," said Dittman. "Bakker leads the league in scoring with 20 points a game, but Erin was able to hold her to only eight for the night. As a team, we held Jamestown to only 58 points. They had scored 96 points the night before against Huron University." Jennie Sonne also came through with 13 rebounds, Nielsen 12 and Hali McClelland 10. Heidi and Jessica Honermann each cashed in 13 points to spark DSU's offense. Sonne added 12 counters and Nielsen 11.
"We've been making it difficult for opposing teams' defenses to help because we've had a couple perimeter players and a couple of post players each game who have been able to score," said Dittman. Jamestown's top scorer was Cari Day who netted a tilt-top 16 points, followed by Jessica Peterson with nine and Bakker with eight counters.
