"A" All-Stars Come-From-Behind

With a roster as deep in talent as these two squads had, it was no surprise to fans of South Dakota girl's basketball that the Dakota State University All-Star game was a shootout. And the game lived up to its billing. In a furious second-half comeback, the Class "A" All-Stars rallied to beat the Class "B" All-Stars in the 2000 All-Star game played in Madison, S.D. After trailing 44-28 with seven minutes remaining in the first-half, the Class "A" squad began a slow comeback that eventually led to a 94-93 victory. The Class "A" All-Stars were led by Parkston's Amber Power with 17 points, followed closely by Clark standout Shannon Schlagel with 15. For the Class "B" All-Stars, Frederick-Hecla's Michelle Bruns led all scorers with 21 points, with Alcester-Hudson's Rebecca Schreur chipping in another 14. For a complete list of scoring, please go to the boxscore. For their play, Shannon Schlagel was name the Class "A" Most Valuable Player while Michelle Bruns was selected for the Class "B" All-Stars.
