An endowed scholarship for women’s basketball was established by Jerry and Ann Shypulski on behalf of their daughter, Kathy. “Kat” was an outstanding basketball player who helped lead DSU to two conference championships while advancing to the NAIA National Tournament her junior and senior seasons. DSU advanced to the “Elite Eight” and “Sweet Sixteen” rounds at the post-season tournament. While helping the team reach their goals, Kathy was also a 1st team All-Conference selection twice, an Honorable Mention All-American in 2000, a 2nd team All-American recipient in 2001and was a two-time Academic All-American her junior and senior year. By the end of her career, Kathy’s name was listed 32 times in the DSU record books. She was 3rd in career scoring with 1432 points, 1st in career 3-point field goals, 1st in career freethrow shooting accuracy, 3rd in career assists, 3rd in career 3-point field goal accuracy, 5th in career field goals, and 6th in career freethrows. Kathy’s senior year, she was named the Most Valuable Senior Athlete in the Dakota-10 Conference.
