Wake
up! Time to see the world! Our day starts off with a tour of the
white house.

After
finishing our tour it is time to head to the Washington
Monument. It is within walking distance so we take off. The
elevator ride up the monument made us all a little woozy, but
after looking at the view we voted that it was worth it.

Now
onto the Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial
Wall. Both of these memorials were very impressive and poignant.
While we were at the memorial wall we witnessed an older
gentleman praying for a lost loved one. It reminded us that
freedom is not free.

The
Jefferson Memorial is a few blocks away so we decide to head
there. One of the impressive things about this memorial was not
found in the marble or stone, but in the knowledge of Jefferson's
words inscribed in the walls. |
| 2:30
pm |
Franklin
D. Roosevelt Memorial was one of the newer monuments that we
saw. The entire area was dedicated to the thoughts and ideas
that he lead the nation with.
|
| 3:30

Next
stop, the Holocaust Museum. After getting there and looking
around for a little while we decided to go on the tour. Before
you start the tour you are given the ID of a person who lived
through this time. Throughout the tour you find out what
happened to them and in the end, if they survived. The entire
experience gave everyone a new perspective on what the Holocaust
really was.

The
troops were starting to get a little hungry and we unanimously
decided to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe.
|
| 6:30
pm |
We
were close to the Old Post Office and decided that it was worth
a look. Part of the reason this building is so significant is
that it was almost demolished. But, a few people fought for it
and convinced everyone that it was worth saving. The view from
the top tower was amazing. |

By
this time everything was starting to close and most of us could
hardly feel our feet. So, we decided to jump on the Metro and
head back to the hotel and hit the hot tub. Our first day in
Washington D.C. was over. |
